Abstract

Providing safe and accessible water to meet human needs is a major issue at this present era. Worldwide, water availability fails to keep up with the increasingly rising demand, which is compounded by population development, global climate change, and decline of water quality. One cannot overestimate the need for technical advancement to allow integrated water management. Nanotechnology has significant potential to enhance efficiency of water and wastewater treatment efficiency and to increase water supply by providing safe use of unconventional sources of water. Here, in this paper, recent advances in water and wastewater management nanotechnologies have been discussed. The topic covers candidate Nano-materials, mechanisms and properties that make the applications, benefits and limitations in regards to current systems, including brand constraints including testing requirements. By tracing these advances in technology to the physico-chemical properties of nano-materials, this paper outlines the limitations and opportunities for sustainable water management to continue capitalizing on these special characteristics.
