Abstract

An arm’s strength and endurance are essential indicators of efficiency in the case of handball
sporting activities. This work establishes the demographic and anthropometric arm strength
predictors and the stamina of handball players in Misan. The participants of this study were
24 handball players (12 males and 12 females, aged 20.431.55 years old) with more than 3
years’ experience in playing handball. The weight and height of the participants have been
measured in order to assess their respective BMI (BMI kg/m2). A computerized electronic
handgrip analyzer was used to measure maximum strength and endurance of their arms. Data
were analyzed using the stepwise ahead regression analysis. The results indicated that the
overall strength and longevity means for the arm were19.9 kg (96% CI: 19.5 to 22.1) and 22.5
kg (96% CI: 21.8 to 25.3), respectively. Results showed that the key independent correlation
in height is grip power, which constitutes 46% of the total variance in leading hand grip
strength (R2=0.46, p<0.01), while 49% of the overall variation in leading hand grip endurance
was due to body weight (R2=0.49, p<0.01). Our findings indicated that cofactors, such as
gender, body weight, age, height, as well as BMI allowed us to precisely predict arm strength
and endurance. This work is useful in the context of sporting activities anthropometry for the
selection of players adolescent in handball game.
