Abstract

With the dawn of 21st century, there has been a marked shift in linguistic studies from single
vocabulary items to multi-words combinations. In the words of Moon (1998) phraseology or multiword structures constitute the fabric of a language. The reason behind this ever growing approach is
that the meaning is present is in the larger stretches of language. Individual words carry little
meaning. There is a long range of these multiword items from compound, idioms, collocations, set
phrases, proverbs, etc. The handling of these multi-word items is easy and natural for the native
speakers. However, it is altogether very difficult for the foreign leaner to handle this phraseology.
The undertaken research is a systematic effort in this regard to describe Urdu language on the level
of lexical collocation. The corpus of Urdu language “urTenTen: Corpus of Urdu Web” has been
used for the description of Urdu lexical collocation. To process the corpus data, “Sketch Engine”
has been used. The retrieval of Urdu lexical collocations is supposed to be a rich resource for Urdu
