Abstract

Violence against women is a foremost public health problem. It is a violation of human rights.  There are women who are sufferers ofviolence or sexual abuse such as trafficking, rape, domestic violence, dowry, divorce etc. Discrimination against women may take place in and outside the home. In the background of the gigantic transformation, the core issue which still remains unanswered, is that of women’s right. Women in India are submissive due to force, violence and the authority of men. Incidents relating to early marriage, domestic violence, trafficking, female foeticide, dowry, rape, divorce are rolled in women’s powerlessness and their dependence on the male members of the family. Besides, women are not considered as equal to men in social context, therefore the question of women rights always get a special emphasis.
