Abstract

Purpose

Continuous growth of hospitality organization and complex working environment demanding high working hours calls management to explore the mean of how to maintain employee’s work life balance and enhance employee engagement. The aim of this research work is to explore the various work life balance practice and its impact on employee engagement and whether ethical leadership moderate the relationship between work life balance practices and employee engagement.

Design/methodology/approach

Researcher has used descriptive research design in this study. The objective of the study and formulated hypothesis was tested through descriptive research design, and collecting data for the problem under investigation using survey method. Structured questionnaire covering different stated objective was piloted on 263 employee associated with hospitality organization located at Agra and Mathura Vrindavan of UP state. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was carried out to identify the factors affecting work life balance and then further ANOVA and regression analysis was carried out using SPSS 22 for testing the proposed hypothesis. 

Findings

Outcome of the research finding indicates that work life balance practices significantly influence the employee engagement and it was further confirmed that ethical leadership moderates the relationship between work life balance practices and employee engagement.

Originality/value

Hospitality organization is the complex organization where human resource plays an important role. Every organization need to follows the permutation and combination of various work life balance practices to achieve higher employee engagement and rendering better customer services.  Organizations recognize the importance of ethical leadership practices with suitable work life balance practices to achieve greater engagement. The management must follow the holistic leadership practices for balancing employee work life so as to gain intended outcome.
