Abstract

Ahmed Yasawi, who is one of the most prominent figures of the Turkic culture and founder of the Sufi
movement, has long been drawing interest of researchers. Although the history of Yasawi studies stretches
back to ancient times, some questions regarding the life and work of the poet are still to be solved. There is no
consensus among scholars about the year of birth of Ahmed Yasawi, about the last fate of the tariqa of
Yasawiya, about the total amount of hikmats, as well as about other works the poet wrote except “Devoni
Hikmat.” The problem of not finding a manuscript that confirms Yasawi’s authorship causes a number of
limitations in this field. The recording of the oldest manuscripts in the 16th century, although Yasawi lived in
the 12th century, creates an obstacle for researchers to express a specific opinion about the language, a
peculiar style of the Yasawi’s hikmats. It is well-known that the above problems in the study of Yasawi’s
legacy remain to the present day. Therefore, it is of great importance to determine the tasks and avenues of
future research on the basis of existing problems of Yasawi studies.
